Barnsley Reaction

On a day which saw Stsve Fletcher withdraw as a result of a 'niggle', here is how assistant boss Richard O'Kelly saw the game (source: Clubs Official Web Site): "I think at the end of the day we thoroughly deserved our point tonight and possibly more with the chances we created against a very good side. We had a few changes and I thought we started the game really well. You could tell in the dressing room they were up for it and it showed on the pitch. The message at half time was keep doing what you're doing and we deserved our goal. From where Sean and I were stood we couldn't really see what happened. All we could see was the reaction of the players, especially the two nearest the ball. They both turned away as if it were a free kick so it was a bizarre goal. The goal was a knock-back for us, but I thought we did well after it went in and continued to create chances. The crowd was buoyant, chanted throughout the night and I think the players responded to that".

The only concern fron the Barnsley camp after the match came from the injury to Bobby Hassell having sustained 3 broken ribs. The Barnsley boss, Andy Ritchie, was quoted afterwards as saying: "The good thing for us is that Bobby was not kept in hospital overnight. It looks as though he has three broken ribs and he was really struggling to breathe when he came off".
