Bond has been named as the replacement for Sean O'Driscoll, who quit to take over as manager of Doncaster Rovers last month, and has signed a deal with The Cherries until the end of the season.

"I started here as an apprentice and finished as a senior player and it's the ideal job to start out as a manager," Bond told BBC Sport.

The 49-year-old son of former Bournemouth manager John Bond, enjoyed playing spells at Norwich City, Manchester City, Southampton and Bournemouth before beginning his coaching career in 1997 as manager of Stafford Rangers.

He joined Portsmouth the following year as assistant to Alan Ball but was sacked in 1999.

He returned to Fratton Park in 2002, this time under Harry Redknapp, and helped the club win promotion to the top flight in 2003 before becoming assistant manager to Glen Roeder at Newcastle.
