Boston United Reaction

Speaking on BBC Radio Solent, Bond is quoted as saying: "We played well and got the all important win. We got off to a decent start with a goal early on which does settle you down a bit. Over the course of the game we played some good stuff in spells and thankfully we were reasonably resilient at the back. What we needed is what we got today which was great. Apart from one or two occasions, the lads kept their concentration quite well at the back. One or two big lads got balls in the box and they were always a threat when balls were played in. And for the most part, the lads kept their concentration defensively and dealt with most things that came their way. Even two nil at half time, to be fair Boston were three-0ne down last week and came back to three all. We did try to emphasise the fact that the next goal was going to be vitally important. Because you could see that if they had got a goal and made it two-one, then we were going to come under enormous pressure, that was a certainty. Obviously we felt that if we made it three [nil] then it would make it extremely difficult for them so we had to keep all our wits about us until the game was over, until we got the third goal and then it came our way".

Neil Young, speaking to BBCi was quoted after the match as saying: "It was important for us to put on a good performance after our recent results. Even when you're 2-0 up at half-time, you don't want to concede an early goal as at 2-1 you can get jittery. So keeping the clean sheet was important for us, and getting the third goal more or less clinched it".

The Boston United manager, speaking after the game on BBCi was quited as saying: "Whenever you go to a higher league club in an FA Cup tie you've got to keep it tight for the first 15-20 minutes, but we conceded an early goal - and if you sit off people, you're going to get punished. Bournemouth had not won for 10 or 11 games, but they're an excellent passing side with a big target man up front in Steve Fletcher, who scored two great headers. But we had two one-on-ones in the second half and didn't hit the target - and we've got a difficult game at (bottom club) Macclesfield next week".
