Brentford Reaction - Cherries

Following the 6-0 stuffing at Griffin Park in the JPT, assistant boss, Steve Fletcher was quoted in the Bournemouth Evening Echo as saying: "It has to be a one-off, it is as simple as that. It was totally unacceptable. We gifted them opportunities to score, we were sloppy in our passing, we didn't pick up from set-pieces and didn't defend properly. We took risks in silly areas and they took every chance. It could have been 8-3. We have got to put it to bed and get it out of our system straight away because we have got a huge game on Saturday. We didn't deserve anything from the game. We started well, played well for 20 minutes and seemed to collapse after they had scored their first goal. That can't happen and it has got to be our motivation to rectify this horrible result. It happens and it happened to Manchester United a couple of weeks ago. But it was the manner in which we were beaten. If we had defended correctly, cleared our lines and marked our players, the scoreline wouldn't have been anywhere near that. But we didn't and got punished for it".

To the fans, Fletch apologised saying that: "They were fantastic from the first minute to the last. They came in their numbers and didn't deserve to see that. Some of them probably took time off work to get here and they won't get back until after midnight. They still clapped and cheered us at the end and it was a humbling experience. Fans of some other clubs would have been trying to get over the railings and at the players. Even when results have gone against us in the past not once have our supporters turned against us. They have always stuck behind us and have been fantastic".
