Burnley Reaction - Cherries

Speaking after the match to BBC Radio Solent, manager Eddie Howe was quoted as saying: "My emotions are of immense pride really in my team. I think they knew that it was a special day for me. I asked them in the build-up to the game just to give me an honest performance and an honest week’s training, because this team have never let me down since I have come back – they have been terrific. But we needed to dig in and show a different side today and I think this was a totally different game. It’s the most we have played this season just because of Burnley’s intensity off the ball, how they play. We adapted our tactics slightly for this game and I think you need to be adaptable. Thankfully the players put on a really good defensive display, put their bodies on the line, worked incredibly hard and deserved a point. I think it was probably a fair reflection on the game".

On the stunning strike that saw Tokelo Rantie get off the mark for the Cherries, Howe went on to say: "It was worth waiting for – it was a great strike. I think he is going to be a special player for us, I really do. I know people have doubted that when the goals haven’t come but I thought he showed real flashes, we just need to get him in the game more and need to get more of the ball to him because he can turn games and he can win us games. The goal was special. I don’t know if he will score one like that every week! He will certainly need to get more tap ins but he’s very much a progressing player for us. I don’t think we will see the best of him until some period down the line but when we do I think he’s going to do great for us".
