Carling Cup First Round Draw

On the eve of the fixtures being made available, the draw for the first round of the Carling Cup has been made with AFC Bournemouth handed a home tie against newly promoted Championship side Southend United. The tie will be played in the week beginning August 21.

Of the other ties, League new boys, Accrington Stanley have been handed a dream start to their return to the Football League with a home tie against Nottingham Forest.

Ironic that having cancelled a pre-season friendly against the Franchise holders, in preference for a trip to Dean Court that Colchester United have to travel to the National Hockey Stadium!
