With Leicester City and Burnley not in action on Saturday it gave a chance to the chasing pack to make up some of the ground on those leading the chase for automatic promotion.

Derby County failed to take advantage of the leading 2 not playing as they surprisingly slipped up at home to struggling Millwall who boosted their chances of remaining in the Championship. Morison bagged the only goal of the game in the 21st minute to keep Millwall heads above water. Derby County 3rd, Millwall 21st.

Queens Park Rangers were able to take advantage of the top-2 not being in action as they got back to winning ways with a 2-0 win over Birmingham City at St Andrews. A brace from Morrison (14th & 73rd mins) sealed the win to close the gap on the top 2 to just 6 points. Birmingham City 18th, Queens Park Rangers 4th.

Nottingham Forest seem to be peddling backwards at the moment, their cause not helped with a 1-0 reverse at Barnsley, who started the day rock bottom. Jennings scored the only goal of the game in the 51st minute to lift the Tykes off the foot of the table. Barnsley 23rd, Nottingham Forest 5th.

Play-off rivals, Brighton & Hove Albion and Reading helped Wigan Athletic as the two couldn't be separated with a 1-1 draw at the Amex. A Gunter own goal in the 16th minute put the Seagulls ahead with Drenthe levelling for the Royals in the 64th minute. Brighton & Hove Albion 8th, Reading 6th.

If Ipswich Town harbour play-off ambitions, then 2-0 defeats to Middlesbrough at The Riverside isn't going to help their cause. A Graham brace in the 29th minute and on the stroke of half time sealed victory for the home side. Middlesbrough 13th, Ipswich Town 9th.

The biggest result of the day saw Leeds United on the wrong end of a 5-1 drubbing in front of their own crowd at Elland Road at the hands of Bolton Wanderers. The Trotters claimed victory with goals from Mason (45th min), Jutkiewicz (52nd min), Knight (56th min), Davies (72nd min) and Moritz (89th min) before Smith bagged a lame consolation in the 92nd minute. Leeds United 12th, Bolton Wanderers 17th.

Doncaster Rovers bounced back from their 5-0 drubbing last weekend to record a 2-0 home win over Yorkshire neighbours Huddersfield Town this weekend. Goals from Sharp (28th min) and Cotterill (55th min) sealed the points to keep Donny heads above water in the race to stay up. Doncaster Rovers 20th, Huddersfield Town 14th.

AFC Bournemouth recorded back to back wins with a 1-0 win over Blackpool at Bloomfield Road as the Tangerines slipped to an 18th game without a win. The only goal of the game came just after half time when Grabban scored from the penalty spot to ensure that the Cherries went home with the points. Blackpool 19th, AFC Bournemouth 15th.

Yeovil Town are to within touching distance of safety at the foot of the table following an unlikely 2-0 win over Sheffield Wednesday at Huish Park. A brace from Miller in the 41st and 51st minutes sealed victory to give the Glovers hope of avoid a quick return to League One. Yeovil Town 22nd, Sheffield Wednesday 16th.

On Sunday, Blackburn Rovers (10th) take on Burnley (2nd), while Charlton Athletic (24th) and Wigan Athletic (7th) are in FA Cup action, which left Leicester City (1st) and Watford (11th) without a match.
