Championship Ups & Downs

Burnley can follow Leicester City and gain automatic promotion this weekend. To achieve that they have to beat Middlesbrough at Turf Moor, which would push the Clarets on to 86 points. They are then reliant on Derby County failing to beat Huddersfield Town at the iPro. If Burnley were to win on Saturday, that would knock Queens Park Rangers out of the promotion equation.

Success for Burnley would confirm Derby County and Queens Park Rangers as two of the four to participate in the play-offs.

Wigan Athletic are on FA Cup duty this weekend so will have to watch what happens to those around them, but they are safely in 5th for the moment.

The fourth play-off place is very much up for grabs with Reading, Brighton & Hove Albion, Ipswich Town, AFC Bournemouth separated by 2 points, with Nottingham Forest and Blackburn Rovers two points further back.

As for the battle to remain in the Championship no one can be relegated this weekend, but should results go against them the fate of Yeovil Town and Barnsley could almost be sealed should they loose their respective matches against AFC Bournemouth (at Huish Park) and Bolton Wanderers (at the Reebok) respectively.

Millwall, Charlton Athletic, Blackpool, Doncaster Rovers and Birmingham City all have work to do if they wish to remain in the Championship.
