Cherries Can Succeed - Barnard

With Barnard given the green light a few hours before kick-off on Saturday, the striker silenced his Fratton Park boo-boys with a header to level scores for the Cherries to ensure a share of the spoils.

Speaking after the match, Barnard was quoted in the Bournemouth Evening Echo as saying: "The Portsmouth game was the first time I had seen the lads and I was really impressed. We popped the ball around really nicely. There is no reason why we can’t get out of this league. I have been told I won’t play much this season (at South Coast Club). Who knows? Football changes all the time".

He went on to say regarding the terrace banter: "It is all part of the fun and I don’t take it to heart. I thought it was a great atmosphere and I enjoyed it. I don’t need extra motivation – I am eager to play and just want to do well – but getting a bit of stick always makes you think you have got to keep them quiet. And, thankfully, I got the goal. But it was just great to score for Bournemouth and get a vital point. It was a good start and I think we can build on it".
