Speaking after the match, manager Jimmy Quinn is quoted in the Bournemouth Evening Echo as saying: "I thought we deserved to win and you probably won't see three better worked goals. We didn't have too many scares. We did a lot of work in the week on holding a good line and not dropping too deep on top of the goalkeeper. It's easier to score from six yards than it is from 18 and the lads were really disciplined. They kept squeezing the 18-yard box and made it difficult for them to score. They resorted to putting a lot of long balls into the box and we had to stand up and defend those, which we did really well. I was delighted".

Speaking about Sammy Igoe, Quinn went on to say: "Sammy was different class. That position suited him down to the ground. But everybody played their part".
