Manager Sean O'Driscoll was pleased with the win at Layer Road, being quoted on BBC Radio Solent after the match as saying: "He was a bit disappointed that he was a sub but he has proved that he is effective when he comes on if we can give him the ball. If he gets on he creates a chance and that is what he did. I watched their Blackpool game and Colchester were excellent playing their 4-5-1/4-3-3 formation so we had a sneaking suspicion that they would stay the same way. So we matched them up, defended when we could. It was difficult for both teams as to what to do when they had the ball because there was no space but we plugged away. I would have settled for a 0-0 draw but I'm delighted with the three points. We have worked all week on dropping back and not competing - Greg Halford is 6 foot four whilst Stephen Foley is Five foot six - so there is no point in him competing [in the air]. It is just what he does with the ball, if he is just flicking them on the half way line then we worked on trying to win the next ball and we did that excellently, the whole game. We always think we have the odd goal in us with Brett, Danny and Stephen Cook on the bench and we could have chased the game down if we had wanted to if we had gone a goal down. We had game plans A,B,C and D ready".

For Colchester United, their midfielder, Greg Halford was quoted on BBCi after the match as saying: "It was gutting, but not all the players were on their game and we got punished in the last minute. We didn't use the ball as well as we can - we did create chances, but we didn't stick them away. Every team loses games, but it's the way you react to it - next Saturday, I'm sure we'll be back on form".

Their manager, Phil Parkinson was quoted after the match as saying: "We got a last-minute goal last week, but we've been hit with one this time. Chris Iwelumo has hit the post and Gareth Williams had a snap-shot, but we needed one of them to go in".
