Shaun Cooper has been offered, and signed, a new 12-month contract as the Cherries eye their first season back in League One.

The popular midfielder/defender is quoted in the Bournemouth Evening Echo as saying: "I am delighted to have signed. As I hardly played any games last season, it would have been difficult for me to find another club if I hadn’t been offered something here. Although I feel very fit, my fitness would have been in question to other clubs and it is only natural that other managers would have looked at that. The club has been good to me and it was decent of them to offer me something, especially considering the length of time I was out. I appreciate it and want to repay their faith by trying to perform well. I have got to prove I can stay fit and am confident there will not be any problems".

Manager Eddie Howe is quoted as saying: "Coops had a frustrating season in terms of he was out injured for a long part of it. He came back at the back end of the season and performed like he’d never been away. He deserves huge credit for coming back so fit and also I think we saw a different side to Coops in terms of how he looks after himself now. He’s very, very professional in how he prepares before training. Having such a serious injury like he did, he has had to adjust his training programme. He’s worked very, very hard during the summer to maintain his fitness and make sure he comes back in top shape. Hopefully, he’ll have the season he deserves after the work he’s put in".
