Manager Eddie Howe was pleased with the result, being quoted in the Bournemouth Evening Echo as saying: "It was always going to be a tough game - Crewe are a very, very good side. They have an unusual formation and I knew they were going to make it difficult for us. I did think about tinkering with it during the week and we did a few sessions on changing it. But I woke up in the morning and thought 'no, we'll stick to 4-4-2' and thankfully it paid off for us".

On Lian Feeney's goal, Howe was quoted as saying: "Liam's been excellent for us all season. He's really come on and really improved. He took his goal excellently and he was a threat again all afternoon".
