Crewe caretaker-manager, Dario O'Gradi, was quoted after the match as saying: "I thought we were decent, but in the end the old man (Fletcher) did us twice. He scored one and made the other. If he'd been playing for us we might have won. But I haven't got any criticism of my players and I was particularly pleased with Carl Martin when he went on. He looked very much the part".
