The Carlisle United manager has confirmed that he is interested in Derek Holmes. In an interview on their official web site, their manager Paul Simpson is quoted as saying: "You left the ground last night intending to speak to Sean O'Driscoll, but did he give you any indication as to what will happen with Derek Holmes?
The indication he's giving me at the moment is that we'll not be able to get him before Tuesday night. I'm not prepared to just accept it as that so I'll be ringing him tonight. He's been at a referee's seminar today so I want to speak to him again. I think Derek would be a good addition to this squad, he's the type of player we need. I think I was criticised for playing the ball long yesterday but, what I can say, is that never once in our preparation for the match did we talk about playing it long. It's just the way it panned out for the players and, when that happens, you do need a target man with real presence. If we can't sign Holmes then we'll go for somebody else who will give us that other dimension
".
