Whether he jumped or was pushed from his managerial role at Dean Court is open to speculation, regardless of which the Cherries legend insists that he has a role to play at AFC Bournemouth.

The Cherries legend is quoted in the Bournemouth Evening Echo as saying: "I have had a fantastic insight into management. I enjoyed every minute of it and gave it everything. I gave it 100 per cent and put my heart and soul into it. There were lots of highs and a few lows. When things don’t go right, you take it to heart more in management but it is something I would definitely like to do again in the future. I spoke at length with the chairman and we talked over everything. With the club developing, we felt this was the best course of action and we can look at the bigger picture. I spoke to the players and found it difficult to tell them because there was a lot of emotion. I have got to be accepted back in the changing room and asked them to help with that. I have got 18 months left on my contract and will concentrate on playing. At the present time, this is the best thing for me and the club but it doesn’t mean I don’t want to get back into management. It was great to hear the chairman say I had a future at the club because I think we are going places. We spoke about the possibility of getting together a development squad and me being involved in that. We have got some excellent young players and the plans for the club are exciting. I still have aspirations to manage but this is the best step at this moment in time".
