Fletch Wants Another Crack At League One

Although his current contract runs out this Summer, Steve Fletcher is hoping to feature in the Cherries step back up to League One next season.

The Cherries legend is quoted in the Bournemouth Evening Echo as saying: "If I’m honest, I didn’t think I would play anywhere near as many games as I have this season. It’s something I didn’t contemplate and I’m sure Eddie would have thought the same. If I had only played a handful of games and felt I hadn’t made a contribution to the team, I may have looked at it in a different light. But I’ve enjoyed the season so much and had some great memories that I don’t see any reason why I shouldn’t carry on. Every division gets that little bit stronger every season. There are some very good teams in League One, some big clubs that were in the Premier League not so long ago. I think it will be as strong as it has ever been. I know it would be a tough ask for me, but that goes for a lot of our players because not too many have played regularly at that level. But I know our boys will adapt very quickly. The division is less physical and more skilful and we’ve got lots of players with an abundance of skill. I will be 38 when next season starts and my game won’t change. It gets harder as you get older but I still believe I can make an impact, whether it’s from the bench or starting. I think I can bring a different dimension to things. While I can still make a difference, I would hope to be involved. I’ve had a fruitful career and have no plans to end it just yet. As I’ve said in the past, I will know when the time has come for me to hang them up".
