Steve Fletcher is said to be close to signing a new contract at Dean Court. Speaking to BBCi, he is quoted as saying: "I'll have to see what the manager Sean O'Driscoll and I come up with. But it won't be eight or nine weeks off for me - I've got to keep myself ticking over during the summer. People like me and Eddie Howe, who struggle on hard ground with our knee problems, we might have to keep going in the gym two or three days a week. Because I've had to have a couple of exploratory knee operations in the last two seasons, I don't want to keep doing that every pre-season because then my season doesn't properly start until September. I've got to keep myself right, so if that means working over the summer, and doing what I'm doing now for the rest of my career, I've spoken to Sean and he's fine about it".

He also hints at a career at Dean Court beyond his playing days: "I don't want to leave after 14 years here, not a chance".
