For My Grandad - Fletch

As for Fletch himself, on news that he's to be the first recipient of the Sir Tom Finney Award, the Cherries Legend is quoted as saying on the Clubs Official Web Site: "My Grandad played for England with Sir Tom Finney. He played for Derby County and won the FA Cup with them, but he also got capped three times for England. Sir Tom Finney and Stanley Matthews were in the same team. It’s nice that I’m getting the Sir Tom Finney award for my Grandad who really got me interested in football. He used to stand in the back garden and when all my friends were out playing on the swings or out doing things I just wanted to play football. He’d throw the ball to me - controlling it, chesting it, heading it - just to learn all the basics. Without my Grandad's influence when I was a teenager growing up, I might not be sat here now so it is ironic that it is the Sir Tom Finney award. It’s got to be one of the nicest things to achieve and receive. To be honoured by the Football League itself for what I’ve contributed over the 20 years I’ve been a player, I can’t really put into words how I felt when I was told the other week that I was going to receive this award. I’m an emotional guy anyway, but hopefully I might be able to hold it together on the night! I am very honoured, it has to be right up there with anything I’ve achieved in football".
