Speaking after the match, their manager Colin Calderwood, was quoted as saying: "It was a nice performance and two wonderful goals from Commons obviously gave us the advantage. Very pleasing from that point of view but the obvious disappointment is Bristol's wonderful result at Carlisle, that is an outstanding result, credit to them. They will enjoy their journey back".

He went on to say re: the sending off: "I think it is, it was two v two at the time but it was the nature of the challenge, it was dangerous and deliberate. Because of that I felt it was the right decision. We were told that Carlisle had gone two-one ahead with Bristol down to ten men. The Irishman behind the dugout was giving me some sort of information, I don't know what radio channel he was listening to!"
