Speaking to BBC Sport after the match, the Hartlepool United, Martin Scott, was quoted as saying: "The result was the main thing - if I'm honest, we'd played better on Tuesday against Colchester. But I'm delighted for the effort my players showed, as their character and resilience was top drawer. We played well against, in my opinion, the best footballing team in this league, so to come away with three points is a great result".
