Speaking to BBC Radio Solent, manager Sean O'Driscoll, was quoted after the match as saying: "Professional. The first two or three round of this competition are difficult games. No one really takes it that seriously. I was surprised at how many people were here really. I thought we passed it really well first half, got a goal up but maybe took our foot off the pedal in the second half. We put one or two subs on and it came good in the end. We said we would play him [Purches] as long as we can. He was just feeling cramp so he came off. Neil has been training for a couple of weeks now so I don't think he was going to be much of a problem. He slotted in as if he hadn't been away".

For Aldershot Town, their manager, Terry Brown, was quoted after the match as saying: "I don't feel we deserved to lose 4-1, but I was also disappointed with the referee's performance. He also had two of the keenest linesmen in the world, as they spotted both the penalties. But Bournemouth are a quality side, they certainly deserved to win, and it was a pleasure to watch some of the football they played. I was very proud that we didn't try and kick them off the park - we tried to get it down and play ourselves. Our players were a credit to the club for over an hour, and gave them a good game".
