League One Results Round Up (August 29th)
Close on their heels, Colcheter United thumped Doncaster Rovers in a comprehensive 4-1 victory at Layer Road. Col U were three up inside the first 30 minutes through Fagan, Johnson and Halford before Donny scored a consolation just before the break through Doolan. A Donny comeback was too much for them as Col U re estabished their 3-goal cushion through Keith in 70 minutes. The result left Colchester United three points off the lead in second, and Donny slipping down to 19th.
Hull City are level on points with Colchester United, as they continued to impress. They secured a 2-1 away win at Oakwell, leaving it until the 88th minute to secure victory against Barnsley in front of a 13175 crowd. Barnsley took the lead on 12 through Conlon, before Hull City hit back in the second half through Elliott and Keane.
Port Vale compounded Bristol City's misery as the Robins were taken for a 3-0 home win in the Potteries. The Vale goals coming from James, Brooker and Armstrong either side of half time.
Along with the surprise package of Col U at this early stage, not too many people would have predicted Chesterfield to have done so well I suspect. But they are, chalking up a find 3-2 away win against Bradford City. The Spirites are not going to be relegation candidates this season if they can come back from 2-0 deficits to win 3-2!! Dean Windass netted either side of half time (41 and 54 minutes) before Chesterfield came back through a Nicholson penalty on 78 minutes which was followed with a brace from Folan on 79 and 88 minutes to nick the points for the Derbyshire side!
Swindon Town hoisted themselves up to the edge of the play-off positions with an impressive 3-0 win over Hartlepool United. All three goals came in the first half through Henderson (17), Parkin (37) and a Nelson penalty (40) secured three points for the Wiltshire Club. Andy King was said to be very pleased with the performance and was one of the best he'd seen while in charge!
Brentford continued the season with their 3 win at home against Stockport County. The SW Londoners also scoring 3 to secure the points. Their goals coming from Dobson (4), Salako (16) and Burton (30) without a response from Stockport!!
Peterborough United travelled to Yorkshire to face Huddersfield Town, and went home with nothing as they were on the wrong end of a 2-1 defeat. The hosts took the lead on 16 minutes through McAliskey (16) before Woodhouse netted a penalty on the stroke of half time. But shortly after the break Worthington scored what proved to be the winner.
Oldham Athletic compounded the miserable start to the season for Franchise FC with a 3-goal beating of the hapless Bedfordshire Club. Johnson (39), Killen (43) and Arber (61) secured w win to lift Oldham to 16th in the table.
The only other game played on Saturday saw Torquay United draw 0-0 at Plainmoor against Walsall. The result leaves Torquay without a win and in the bottom 4 and Walsall slipped to 17th.
