Brentford continue to lead the way, even though they were held to a 1-1 draw by Barnsley at Oakwell. In fact Brentford players scored both goals as Turner scored an own goal to put the home side ahead on 24 minutes. But Owusu made amends 60 seconds later with the equaliser. Barnsley 13th, Brentford 1st.

Huddersfield Town staked their claim to 2nd place with a good 2-1 home win over Hartlepool United. Abbott and Schofield fired Town in to a 2-0 half time lead with strikes in the 13th and 18th minutes respectively. Hartlepool United came back in to it with what proved to be a consolation from Boyd 6 minutes after the restart. Huddersfield Town 2nd, Hartlepool United 19th.

Oldham Athletic came south for a visit to Colchester United. They came away with a point following a 0-0 draw at Layer Road. Colchester United 18th, Oldham Athletic 3rd.

Port Vale maintained their good start to the new season with a 2-0 home win over much fancied Doncaster Rovers at Vale Park. A Lowndes strike on the half hour and a Dinning effort 3 minutes after the restart ensured that the points remained in the Potteries. Port Vale 4th, Doncaster Rovers 20th.

Two of the newly promoted sides met at Glanfield Park, with Scunthorpe United coming out on top in a 1-0 win over Southend United. Baraclough claimed the only goal of the game in the 36th minute. Scunthorpe United 5th, Southend United 16th.

Without doubt the most remarkable game of the day came at Bescot when Walsall entertained Swansea City. Martinez fired Swansea City ahead in the 15th minute before Fryatt levelled from the penalty spot in the 24th minute. After the break Akinfenwa fired City back in front on 47 before Gueret put past his own keeper which brought Walsall level again. But 3 goals in 8 minutes made the points safe for the Swans as Tudur-Jones, McLeod and Connor made sure of the points in the 63rd, 65th and 71st minutes respectively. Walsall 10th, Swansea City 6th.

Rotherham United have adjusted to life in League One with some ease especially as they thrashed Blackpool 4-0 at Millmoor. Mullin gave the home side the lead on 40 before Burton claimed the match ball with a hat trick with strikes in the 58th, 59th and 86th minutes. Rotherham United 7th, Blackpool 23rd.

With 5 changes to the starting 11, AFC Bournemouth claimed an unlikely win over Bradford City at Valley Parade. Danny Cadamarteri put City ahead on the stroke of half time before a Bower own goal (55) and a Surman strike on 64 secured the win for the Cherries. Bradford City 12th, AFC Bournemouth 8th.

Two of the relegated sides met at Priestfield where Gillingham were soundly beaten by Nottingham Forest. Johnson (8) and Dobie (44) had already fired Forest in to a commanding 0-2 lead at half time before Byfield pulled one back on 78, only to see Weir-Daley restore the 2 goal advantage a minute later. Gillingham 9th, Nottingham Forest 15th.

It looks like Tranmere Rovers are find their feet again after play-off disappointment following a 2-0 away win over Chesterfield at Saltergate. Jackson (76) and Roberts (90) made sure of the points in the final quarter of the game. Chesterfield 22nd, Tranmere Rovers 11th.

Swindon Town and Yeovil Town unevenly shared 6 goals at the County Ground as Yeovil struggle to adjust to life at the higher level. Bastianini scored the days fastest goal after 26 seconds before Skiverton put past his own keeper to level matters. Fallon (50) and Heath (66) gave Swindon a 3-1 lead before Skiverton pulled it back to 3-2 in the 87th minute leaving Roberts to make the points safe for the home side in the final few seconds. Swindon Town 14th, Yeovil Town 24th.

Bristol City must be wondering what they have to do to kick start their season after the fell behind to two first half strikes from Franchise holders Platt on 7 and 17 minutes. A point was rescued when Brooker (53) and Heywood (60) levelled the game at 2-2. Bristol City 17th, Franchise FC 21st.
