Managerial changes have dominated recent news as Brentford part company with Martin Allen after his sudden resignation from Griffin Park, even though Allen still had another 12 months to run on his existing contract. Allen has been tipped to take over the hot seat at Prenton Park.

Meanwhile League One newcomers Northamton Town have lost their manager before a ball has been kicked in the 2006/07 season. Colin Calderwood has moved from Sixfields to the giddy heights of the City Ground where he will be expected to guide Nottingham Forest back to the higher level. Town reserve coach, David Kerslake is following Calderwood.

Meanwhile, John Gorman, former boss at Wycombe Wanderers has been linked with the vacant managers position at Sixfields.

AFC Bournemouth have acted early to snap up youngsters Conal Platt and Tareq Khalil from Liverpool and Cardiff City respectively after both were released.

Charlie Oatway, Richard Carpenter, Gary Hart and Guy Butters have all agreed new one-year deals at relegated Brighton & Hove Albion. Kerry Mayo has also been offered a one-year contract and will make a decision once he returns from holiday.

Prolific goal scorer Juan Ugarte, has left Crewe Alexandra by mutual consent.

Swansea City may have missed out in the play-offs, but they are looking to strengthen ahead of the pre-season as they have confirmed that they have placed a £100,000 bid for Roger Johnson from Wycombe Wanderers.

League Two Champions Carlisle United have completed work to increase their Brunton Park capacity up to 16291 in time for the new season.

League Two play-off victors, Cheltenham Town, have given new contracts to Jamie Victory and Jerry Gill.
