The biggest match on the evening came at Bramhall Lane where 23431 saw the two play-off rivals, Sheffield United and Brentford battle out a 2-2 draw. First blood went to the Bees when Trotta netted a 24th minute penalty to give the side from SW London a half time lead. During that opening 45 minutes a remarkable 7 yellow cards were dished out. After the break Brentford's Craig was shown a straight red card, which resulted in a penalty being missed by United's McMahon. The home side claimed a second penalty in the 62nd minute, which Robson did convert from 12-yards. Just 6-minutes later the game was turned on its' head when Kitson gave United the lead. The numbers were evened up when Maguire was sent off, with Brentford being awarded a penalty, which Saunders missed! Donaldson followed his team mate down the tunnel in the 77th minute, leaving the Bees with 9-men on the pitch! Wright-Phillips had the last laugh for the visitors when he levelled the scores again in the 88th minute, leaving both to rue missed opportunities and a chance to stake their place for a top-2 finish. Any hopes of Yeovil Town of automatic promotion were all but killed off as Oldham Athletic beat the Somerset side at Boundary Park to lift the Latics 5-points above the drop zone, which almost guarantees their safety. Smith scored the only goal of the game on the stroke of half time. The goal also meant that Hartlepool United and Portsmouth were relegated to League Two. Oldham Athletic 19th, Yeovil Town 5th.
Swindon Town managed to arrest a major slump in form with a decent 4-1 win over Crewe Alexandra, who still appear to have a hang over from their win at Wembley. A brace from Rooney (5th & 25th minutes), plus a strike from Luongo (18th min) put the Robins in to a commanding first half lead. Davis pulled one back for the Alex in the 65th minute from the penalty spot, leaving Collins to put the result beyond doubt in the 71st minute. The result just about guarantee's Swindon's place in the play-offs. Swindon Town 6th, Crewe Alexandra 13th.
Franchise FC have hauled themselves back up to have a shout of the play-offs, even though their chances of finishing 6th is slim, despite a 2-0 win over Colchester United at the Community Stadium. Goals from Powell (11th min) and Bamford (78th min) sealed the win. Colchester United 20th, Franchise FC 7th.
Already relegated Bury gave themselves some end of season pride with an up lifting 2-1 win over Scunthorpe United at Gigg Lane, who could be relegated at the weekend. Hawley gave Scunny the lead on the stroke of half time, only to see two quick goals from Clarke-Harris and Ajose in the 68th and 70th minutes turn the game around for a home win. Scunny will be relegated on Saturday if they fail to beat Franchise FC (a) at the weekend. Bury 24th, Scunthorpe United 21st.
