League One Review - April 23rd

The game of the day came at Withdean when League One Champions Brighton & Hove Albion came up against promotion chasing South Coast Club. First blood went to the Seagulls who went in at the break one-up when Barnes netted on the stroke of half time. Saints hit back with 2 late goals when Connolly (84th min) and Fonte (89th min) scored the goals to tarnish the unbeaten home record of the Seagulls. Brighton & Hove Albion 1st, South Coast Club 2nd.

Huddersfield Town temporarily grabbed 2nd place with a Good Friday win over Franchise FC at Stadium:Franchise. Arfield put the Terriers 1-up in the 23rd minute, which was followed by a Peltier goal 12 minutes later. Cadamarteri put the result beyond doubt with a 3rd in the 70th minute, leaving Doumbe to net a consolation in the 89th minute. Franchise FC 5th, Huddersfield Town 3rd.

Peterborough United slipped up at play-off chasing Leyton Orient at Brisbane Road. Zakuani put past his own keeper to give the O's the lead in the 67th minute, with Mendez-Laing levelling 8 minutes later. Jarvis scored the winner to keep the east London side in the chase for a play-off place in the 96th minute. Leyton Orient 8th, Peterborough United 4th.

AFC Bournemouth were pegged back by Yeovil Town at Huish Park, being held to a 2-2 draw. A brace from Ings (55th min pen & 68th min) saw the Cherries coasting before a Virgo penalty in the 86th minute and a leveller from MacDonald in the 92nd minute denied the Cherries. Yeovil Town 17th, AFC Bournemouth 6th.

Rochdale failed to captialise and close the gap on the play-off places, slipping up against Carlisle United, 3-2, at Spotland. A Holness own goal in the 25th minute gave the Cumbrians the lead before Thompson (30th min) and Done (49th min) turned the game around for Dale. Two quick goals from, Noble (60th min) and Robson (65th min) turned the game back in favour of the visitors. Rochdale 7th, Carlisle United 10th.

Exeter City joined Rochdale and Leyton Orient on 64 points, 3 off the play-offs, following a 2-0 win over Oldham Athletic at St James's Park. Golbourne (34th min) and Cureton (42nd min) secured 3-points for the Grecians. Exeter City 9th, Oldham Athletic 16th.

Mid-table Brentford and Colchester United managed to cancel each other out with a 1-1 draw at Griffin Park. Henderson gave the Essex side the lead in the 15th minute, with, Saunders levelling with 16 minutes left. Brentford 11th, Colchester United 12th.

Bristol Rovers will be kicking themselves having failed to beat 9-man Charlton Athletic at The Memorial Ground. Benson (8th min) and Reid (46th min) gave the Addicks a 2-goal lead before Reid and Semedo were both sent off for 2nd bookable offences. Rovers then hit back through Brown (66th min) and Williams (84th min), but failed to find an all-important winner, which would have lifted them out of the drop-zone. Bristol Rovers 22nd, Charlton Athletic 13th.

Hartlepool United and Tranmere Rovers cancelled each other out with a 1-1 draw at The Victoria Ground. Sweeney gave Pool the lead in the 14th minute, with Jennings levelling with 9 minutes to go. Hartlepool United 14th, Tranmere Rovers 18th.

Sheffield Wednesday are safe for another season in League One, but left Walsall with work to do following a 1-1 draw at Bescot. Macken gave the Saddlers the lead in the 10th minute, while Mellor levelled in the 26th minute. Walsall 21st, Sheffield Wednesday 15th.

Notts County boosted their chances of beting the drop with back-to-back wins, their latest coming at the expence of doomed Swindon Town at The County Ground, even though Ritchie gave the home side the lead in the 18th minute. Judge (78th min) and Hughes (85th min) netted to give County 3-vital points. Swindon Town 24th, Notts County 19th.

Plymouth Argyle look pretty doomed for the drop in to League Two, but are not going without a fight. They managed to edge past Dagenham & Redbridge at Victoria Road with a 1-0 win - Patterson scoring the only goal of the game in the 48th minute. Dagenham & Redbridge 20th, Plymouth Argyle 23rd.
