Having led the way for much of the season Tranmere Rovers can no longer gain automatic promotion following their top-of-the-table clash at the Keepmoat against Doncaster Rovers. AFC Bournemouth kept the pressure on the leaders with a decent 3-1 win over Notts County at Dean Court, despite going behind after just 90 seconds through Hughes. The Cherries hit back with a Ritchie brace (17th and 85th minutes) and the seemingly inevitable goal from Pitman in the 27th minute. The win opens a 5-point gap between the top-2 and the chasing pack. AFC Bournemouth 2nd, Notts County 11th.
Yeovil Town took advantage of slips elsewhere with a 2-1 win over Shrewsbury Town at Huish Park. A Hayter penalty in the 11th minute set the Glovers on their way, with McGinn levelling 10 minutes later. What proved to be the winner came courtesy of Madden just after the half hour mark. Yeovil Town 3rd, Shrewsbury Town 18th.
Brentford dropped valuable points on the road at The Ricoh against troubled Coventry City. The Sky Blues took the lead on the stroke of half time when Baker netted from the penalty spot, with Forrester levelling 2 minutes after the re-start. Coventry City 14th, Brentford 4th.
In another top-of-the-table clash, Walsall and Sheffield United could be separated as the pair drew 1-1 at Bescot. Westcarr gave the Saddlers the lead just before the break, only to see Porter level 20 minutes in to the second period. United do have game in hand on those around them, but the pressure is on to win them! Walsall 8th, Sheffield United 5th.
Colchester United boosted their chances of survival, while sinking Leyton Orient's chances of making the play-offs at their Community Stadium. Two quick goals from Massey (20th min) and Wright (24th min) only drew a response from Lisbie for the O's in the 37th minute. Colchester United are now a comfortable 6-points above the drop zone. Colchester United 19th, Leyton Orient 9th.
Preston North End dented any survival hopes Scunthorpe United have following a 3-0 win for the home side at Deepdale. Goals from Holmes (38th min), Wroe (77th min) and King (93rd min) all but secured PNEs League One future. Preston North End 16th, Scunthorpe United 21st.
Carlisle United are also pretty much safe for another season as the Cumbrians secured a 2-1 win against struggling Oldham Athletic, who hover just above the drop zone. Noble (9th min) and Mustoe (33rd min) gave the visitors a 2-goal cushion, before a Baxter penalty 17 minutes from the end proved to be a mere consolation. Oldham Athletic 20th, Carlisle United 17th.
Hartlepool United secured a stay of execution as they managed to beat fellow strugglers Bury at Victoria Road. A brace from Monkhouse in the 42nd and 71st minutes secured the points, which left the home side effectively 6 points short of safety, given their inferior goal difference, with 3 matches left to play. Bury's return to League Two was all but confirmed. Hartlepool United 23rd, Bury 24th.
The other games played in League One both resulted in 0-0 draws. Franchise FC (10th) and Crawley Town (12th); Portsmouth (22nd) and Stevenage Borough (15th) couldn't find a way to goal.
Not playing this weekend were Swindon Town (6th) and Crewe Alexandra (13th) due to the latters involvement in the JPT Final.
