League One new-boys, Crawley Town, signalled their intentions on the opening day with a 3-0 win over hapless Scunthorpe United at the Broadfield Stadium. Alexander netted a brace in the 33rd and 64th minutes with Forte adding to Scunny's misery with an 80th minute strike. Then to compound the woes of the travelling contingent, Duffy was shown red for a second bookable offence. Crawley Town 1st, Scunthorpe United 23rd.

Despite their demise from the Championship last season, Doncaster Rovers intend getting back at the first attempt as they notched up a 3-0 away win against Walsall at Bescot. Goals from Brown (5th min), a wonder strike from Cotterill (26th min) and Bennett (56th min) was too much for the Saddlers. Walsall 24th, Doncaster Rovers 2nd.

Tranmere Rovers brushed Leyton Orient aside in a 3-1 win at Prenton Park. Goals from Bakayogo (34th min) and a brace from Akpa Akpro (57th and 65th mins) only drew a response from Symes in the 80th minute from the penalty spot. Tranmere Rovers 3rd, Leyton Orient 21st.

Franchise FC got their season up and running with a 2-0 win over Oldham Athletic at Stadium:Franchise. Goals from Potter (34th min) and Powell (59th min) sealed a win as the home side look to build on previous play-off failures. Franchise FC 4th, Oldham Athletic 22nd.

Notts County held on to all 3-points at Gresty Road, despite being reduced to 10-men on the hour mark against Crewe Alexandra. Zoko (40th min) and Arquin (58th min) put County in to a 2-goal before Arquin turned villain 2 minutes after he scored, seeing a straight red card. Pogba pulled one back for the Alex, but it wasn't enough to salvage a point. Crewe Alexandra 19th, Notts County 5th.

Sheffield United managed to put their play-off woes behind them, edging League One new-boys, Shrewsbury Town out at Bramhall Lane with a single goal victory. McAllister scored the only goal in the 4th minute. Sheffield United 6th, Shrewsbury Town 20th.

AFC Bournemouth managed to salvage a point against financially stricken Portsmouth at Fratton Park in a 1-1 draw. McLeod gave Pompey the lead in the 19th minute, with Barnard levelling in the 78th minute. Portsmouth 10th, AFC Bournemouth 7th.

Stevenage Borough and Carlisle United had to settle for a point at Broadhall Way as Shroot (88th min for Borough) cancelled out a 73rd minute strike by Robson for the Cumbrians. Stevenage Borough 11th, Carlisle United 8th.

Coventry City were held to a 1-1 draw by Yeovil Town at Huish Park in their first ever meeting at any level of the game. McDonald gave City the lead in the 10th minute only to see Hinds level 11 minutes later. Yeovil Town 12th, Coventry City 9th.

The remaining 3 games played in League One, between Bury (14th) and Brentford (13th), Hartlepool United (16th) and Swindon Town (18th), and Preston North End (17th) and Colchester United (15th) all finished goalless.
