Newly promoted Swindon Town claimed their first win of the campaign against relegated Luton Town at The County Ground. Carlisle United chalked up their first win of the campaign over promotion hopefuls Oldham Athletic at Brunton Park. The only goal of the game came in the 42nd minute courtesy of a Graham penalty. Carlisle United 5th, Oldham Athletic 11th.

Brighton & Hove Albion are off the mark with a 2-1 home win over Northampton Town at Withdean. A Hammond penalty in the 2nd minute was cancelled out by a Kirk equaliser in the 23rd minute. Hartlepool United got their season off and running with a 'giant killing' in the Carling Cup in the week, and followed it up with a good win over promotion hopefuls Doncaster Rovers at Victoria Park. Leeds United continued their good start to the new season with a 2nd League win at Elland Road over Southend United. Thompson had put Leeds ahead in the 3rd minute with Barrett levelling in the 69th.
