Huddersfield Town continued their impressive start to the season with a 2-1 away win at Belle Vue against Doncaster Rovers. They made the perfect start as Brandon put them one-up in the second minute. Worthington extended the lead on 40 minutes to give a comfortable 2-0 lead at the break. A McIndoe penalty on 64 minutes proved to be a consolation. Doncaster Rovers 23rd, Huddersfield Town 1st.

Swansea City continued their life at the higher level with an emphatic 3-1 win over Barnsley in their new home. McLeod fired the home side ahead on 14 before Burns levelled on 35, sending both in level at the break. Trundle (on 58) and a second for McLeod (90) made sure of the points for the Welsh side. Swansea City 2nd, Barnsley 15th.

Brentford were held by Gillingham at Griffin Park as the visitors took the lead on the stroke of half time - Harris had an empty net to slot the ball in to from outside the penalty area. An assist from Tabb allowed Peters to level in the 75th minute. Brentford 3rd, Gilligham 10th.

Rotherham United have a new hero in the form of Deon Burton as he scored the only goal of the game in the 80th minute to give them the victory over Oldham Athletic at Boundary Park. Oldham Athletic 8th, Rotherham United 4th.

Scunthorpe United will be kicking themselves this evening as they let 2 points slip against Hartlepool United at Victoria Park! Both sides exchanged goals in the opening 10 minutes as 'Pool took the lead through Proctor in the 6th minute, only to see Sharp net his first goal of the afternoon 3 minutes later. Sharp put the visitors ahead on 50 with Keogh extending the lead in the 65th minute. Williams pulled a goal back for Hartlepool United, who then had to sweat it out until a 90th minute penalty was converted by Boyd to ensure a share of the points! Hartlepool United 17th, Scunthorpe United 6th.

Tranmere Rovers seem to have put their dodgy start to the season behind them as they claimed a 1-0 win over Swindon Town at Prenton Park as Greenacre scored the only goal on the game on 58 minutes. Tranmere Rovers 7th, Swindon Town 14th.

In one of the biggest games Essex has seen for many a long year, Southend United came out on top against near neighbours Colchester United 3-1 at Roots Hall. With local pride at stake, Goater got the home side off to a dream start on 3 minutes, but Stockley levelled on 19. Cole ensured that the home side went in at the break with their noses in front as he scored on the half hour mark. Goater made the points safe on 78 minutes with his second goal of the game, ensuring that most of the 7344 crowd went home happy. Southend United 12th, Colchester United 22nd.

Blackpool claimed their first home win of the campaign against Bradford City. The only goal came in the 84th minute from Wiles. Blackpool 19th, Bradford City 13th.

Yeovil Town are finding life a the higher level a tad more difficult than they might have thought I suspect! This time they failed to overcome Chesterfield at Huish Park despite taking the lead through Alvarez on 36 minutes. Hall levelled for Chesterfield on 44 with a brace coming from Smith in the 53rd and 75th minutes. Yeovil Town 24th, Chesterfield 18th.

Port Vale were held by the Franchise holders 0-0 at the National Hockey Stadium, in the same way as AFC Bournemouth and Walsall failed to find the net at Dean Court. Port Vale 5th, Franchise FC 21st; AFC Bournemouth 9th, Walsall 11th.

The only League One sides not in action on Bank Holiday Monday were Nottingham Forest and Bristol City who meet on September 20th instead (postponed because of the Ashes test match at Trent Bridge). Nottingham Forest 16th, Bristol City 20th.
