The postponement of Carlisle United (4th) against Swansea City (2nd) allowed Nottingham Forest to go top of league One for the first time this season as they saw off struggling Port Vale at The City Ground. Agogo in the 24th minute, and McGugan in the 67th minute scored the goals to secure the win, allowing the East Midlands side to the top of the pile. Nottingham Forest 1st, Port Vale 23rd.

Leeds United are nicely poised behind the top two following a late winner against Bristol Rovers at Elland Road. Howson scored the only goal of the game in the 84th minute to secure the win. Leeds United 3rd, Bristol Rovers 19th.

Leyton Orient warmed up for the Christmas programme with a 0-0 draw against Yeovil Town at Brisbane Road. Leyton Orient 5th, Yeovil Town 8th.

Walsall have slipped in to the play-off places following a comfortable 3-0 home win against Millwall at Bescot. A Mooney brace before half time (29 and 38 mins) was followed just before the break with a Harris own goal to wrap up the 3-points. Walsall 6th, Millwall 20th.

Southend United slipped to a surprise home defeat against Oldham Athletic. A Hughes goal in the 4th minute was enough to secure 3-points for the Latics. Southend United 7th, Oldham Athletic 14th.

Doncaster Rovers romped to a comfortable away win, their 4th of the season, against Crewe Alexandra at Gresty Road, walking away with a 4-0 victory. A Price brace either side of half time (38 and 50 mins) was followed by two late goals from Green and Guy to secure the win. Crewe Alexandra 17th, Doncaster Rovers 9th.

A Booth brace in the 14th and 66th minutes at Whaddon Road was enough for Huddersfield Town to see off Cheltenham Town, leaving the home side in relegation trouble. Cheltenham Town 21st, Huddersfield Town 11th.

Troubled Luton Town lifted themselves off the bottom of League One with a valuable 1-0 home win over Tranmere Rovers at Kenilworth Road. Edwards scored the only goal of the game in the 70th minute. Luton Town 22nd, Tranmere Rovers 12th.

Swindon Town lifted some of the gloom from recent weeks with a morale boosting 2-1 win over Hartlepool United at the County Ground. Moore had given the visitors a half time lead with a 45th minute strike, but then saw Cox level in the 49th minute, and Corr score from the penalty spot to secure the win. Swindon Town 15th, Hartlepool United 13th.

Northampton Town eased to an easy win over hapless AFC Bournemouth at Sixfields in their Friday night fixture. Bowditch had given the home side a 4th minute lead, only to see that cancelled out a minute later by Pitman. But that is as good as it got for the Cherries as Crowe restored the advantage in the 43rd minute. Jones added a 3rd in the 50th minute, and Johnson completed the rout in the 67th minute. Northampton Town 16th, AFC Bournemouth 24th.

The remaining (Friday night) fixture in League One, Brighton & Hove Albion (10th) and Gillingham (18th) was called off due to frost in the pitch.
