League One Review - Dec 26th

Swansea City returned to the top of the pile after a thumping 4-1 win over struggling Cheltenham Town at the Liberty Stadium. A Robinson brace in the 18th and 20th minutes gave the Jacks a 2-0 lead going in to the break. Vodde added to the advantage in the 47th minute, with Scotland putting the result beyond doubt in the 78th minute. Gillespie scored a consolation in the 82nd minute. Swansea City 1st, Cheltenham Town 22nd.

Leeds United left it very late (again), this time to snatch a point at Hartlepool United. Nelson had given the home side a 21st minute lead only to see Beckford level in the 90th minute of time. Hartlepool United 14th, Leeds United 3rd.

Carlisle United slipped up at Prenton Park against Tranmere Rovers, loosing 2-0. McLaren gave Rovers a 16th minute lead, with Kay scoring the 2nd on the stroke of half time. Tranmere Rovers 10th, Carlisle United 4th.

Leyton Orient looked decidedly second best at lowly AFC Bournemouth at Dean Court. The Cherries took a 19th minute lead through Gradel, with Vokes adding a 2nd in the 54th minute, and Henry making sure of the points in the 90th minute after Saah pulled one back in the 72nd minute. AFC Bournemouth 21st, Leyton Orient 5th.

Doncaster Rovers have slipped in to the play-off places with a 2-0 win over Northampton Town at Sixfields. McCammon got the home side off to a good start in the 11th minute. Lockwood scored what proved to be the winner in the 29th minute. Doncaster Rovers 6th, Northampton Town 17th.

Port Vale must have thought that they had done enough against Walsall to claim a valuable 3 points at Vale Park. Laird gave Vale an 11th minute lead, only to see Ricketts level in the 90th minute. Port Vale 24th, Walsall 7th.

Southend United must have thought that they had done enough to claim the points against Gillingham at Priestfield. Clarke gave United a 54th minute lead, only to see Miller claim a point with an 89th minute equaliser. Gillingham 18th, Southend United 8th.

Yeovil Town hosted Wiltshire neighbours Swindon Town at Huish Park. Corr scored the only goal of the game in the 66th minute to give Swindon a valuable 3-points. Yeovil Town 9th, Swindon Town 13th.

Millwall eased themselves away from the drop zone with a comfortable 3-0 win over Brighton & Hove Albion at the New Den. A hat-trick from Alexander in the 7th, 54th and 71st minute (the latter from the penalty spot) was enough to wrap up a festive three points for the SE London side. Millwall 19th, Brighton & Hove Albion 11th.

Huddersfield Town were another side to leave it late to claim anything from their game, as they had to come from behind to claim a point against Crewe Alexandra at the Galpharm Stadium. Barnard gave the Alex a 19th minute lead, with Booth levelling to salvage a point in the 85th minute. Huddersfield Town 12th. Crewe Alexandra 16th.

Bristol Rovers will be wondering how on earth they didn't pick up three points against Luton Town at The Memorial Stadium. Lambert gave Rovers a 17th minute lead from the penalty spot, only to see Edwards level in the 49th minute. Town finished the game with just 8 men on the pitch! Bristol Rovers 20th, Luton Town 23rd.

The only other game to the played in League One saw Oldham Athletic (15th) draw 0-0 with Nottingham Forest (2nd) at Boundary Park.
