In a London derby, Leyton Orient came out on top against table toppers Charlton Athletic at Brisbane Road. The Addicks got off to a terrible start, seeing their keeper sent off for deliberate handball as early as the 6th minute, which the O's took advantage of when they took the lead through Spring in the 25th minute, which proved to be the winner. Leyton Orient 16th, Charlton Athletic 1st.

Sheffield United are looking to bounce back to the Championship come May, their chances helped with a 3-1 over Hartlepool United, who seem to be in free-fall at the moment. Flynn (12th min), Porter (34th min) and Evans (42nd min) gave the Blades a 3-0 head start before Hartley netted a 93rd minute consolation. Sheffield United 2nd, Hartlepool United 16th.

Sheffield Wednesday are looking to 2012 with an eye on promotion having finished 2011 with a 2-0 away win over Preston North End at Deepdale. Batth (4th min) and Marshall (42nd min) scored the goals to keep the Owls on track for shout at automatic promotion come May. Preston North End 11th, Sheffield Wednesday 3rd.

For the second game running, Brentford left it late to come back to snatch a point at home. Once again, Legge was their hero. That said, Franchise FC raced in to a 3-0 half time lead at Griffin Park, with goals from Potter (4th min), Balanta (6th min) and MacDonald (41st min). In the second period a brace from Alexander in the 65th and 75th minutes (the latter coming from the penalty spot) set up a grandstand finish as Legge levelled matters in the 92nd minute to ensure a share of the spoils. Huddersfield Town had to settle for a share of the spoils against Carlisle United at the Galpharm Stadium. Noble gave the Cumbrians the lead in the 8th minute, with goal-scoring machine Rhodes levelling matters half an hour later. Huddersfield 5th, Carlisle United 8th.

Stevenage Borough continued their fine run of form in the 3rd tier of English football with a 1-0 win over Wycombe Wanderers at Adams Park. Wilson scored the only goal of the game in the 82nd minute. Wycombe Wanderers 21st, Stevenage Borough 6th.

Inconsistent Colchester United managed to put their Boxing Day 6-1 drubbing behind them to record a 2-0 win over Exeter City. Wordsworth (16th min) and Bond (62nd min) ensured that the Essex side finished the calendar year on a positive note. Colchester United 9th, Exeter City 19th.

Oldham Athletic managed to come from behind to snatch all 3-points against play-off chasing Notts County at Boundary Lane. A certain Mr Hughes gave the Magpies the lead in the 10th minute with Scapuzzi levelling 17 minutes later, with Bishop netting 6 minutes before the break for the visitors. The Latics bagged the win through Morais (70th min) and Diamond (86th min). Oldham Athletic 14th, Notts County 10th.

Tranmere Rovers managed to get their game on against Bury following some of their main stand coming down after high winds leading up to their Boxing Day clash against Rochdale. Labadie (24th min) and Taylor (90th min) secured the points to keep Rovers just below mid-table. Tranmere Rovers 15th, Bury 12th.

AFC Bournemouth managed to overcome their Huish hoo-doo, recording a 3-1 win over Yeovil Town - their first ever away win over the Somerset side. Gregory gave the Cherries a 6th minute lead, which was followed by Fogdens strike in the 26th minute. Huntington got one back for the Glovers in the 66th minute, with Daniels putting the result beyond doubt in the 74th minute. Yeovil Town 22nd, AFC Bournemouth 13th.

Struggling Scunthorpe United and Chesterfield finished 2011 with a 2-2 draw at Glanford Park. Canavan put Scunny 1-up in the 24th minute, only to see Boden (48th min) and Westcarr (70th min) turn the game around before Ryan levelled matters in the 92nd minute. Scunthorpe United 20th, Chesterfield 24th.

Walsall (18th) and Rochdale (23rd) had to settle for a 0-0 draw at Bescot.
