Southend United returned to top spot with a 2-0 home win over Rotherham United at Roots Hall on Friday evening. First half goals from Goater (11) and Eastwood (35) ensured that Southend compunded Rotherham's on-the-pitch misery. Southend United 1st, Rotherham United 23rd.

Colchester United let top spot slip following a defeat on the road away to Huddersfield Town. The Essex side had already seen a goal disallowed for offside before Worthington fired the home side ahead in the 13th. This was followed with Graham making certain of the points in the 67th minute. Huddersfield Town 5th, Colchester United 2nd.

Swansea City made up ground on the automatic promotion places with a 2-1 away win over Nottingham Forest. Tyson had already neatly put the home side ahead in the 21st minute before Forbes levelled for the visitors 5 minutes later. Trundle then secured the win in the 66th minute. Nottingham Forest 10th, Swansea City 3rd.

Brentford also kept pace with a single goal victory over Bristol City at Ashton Gate. Owusu left it until the 77th minute to secure the points! Bristol City 22nd, Brentford 4th.

A local derby for Barnsley saw them defeated at Belle Vue by Doncaster Rovers. Price scored both of the goals for the home side in the 35th and 58th minutes to secure a much needed win for Rovers. Doncaster Rovers 14th, Barnsley 6th.

Chesterfield had their play-off ambitions dented by manager-less Hartlepool United. Robson scored the only goal of the game in the 64th minute to secure the priceless win for 'Pool. Hartlepool United 17th, Chesterfield 7th.

By virtue of a very tight League One, Port Vale lept some 5 places following a 1-0 home win over Yeovil Town. The only goal coming from loanee Constantine in the 51st minute. Port Vale 9th, Yeovil Town 18th.

Tranmere Rovers (now in the top half of the table) were held to a draw by Gillingham at Priestfield. O'Leary put the visitors head in the 47th minute, but were pegged back by Byfield in the 72nd. Tranmere Rovers 11th, Gillingham 15th.

Scunthorpe United and Walsall played out the perverbial 6-pointer at Bescot ..... both coming away with just the one! Keogh had put Scunny ahead in the 18th minute, with Keates levelling in the 29th. MacKenzie put the visitors back in front in the 44th. Barrowman levelled for the home side in the 76th minute, who by this point in the game had already seen Devlin sent off in the 68th minute. Walsall 20th, Scunthorpe United 16th.

Swindon Town battled for their point away to Bradford City. Windass (facing a lengthy FA ban) put the home side ahead in the 78th minute, but this was cancelled out in 89th minute by O'Hanlon. Bradford City 12th, Swindon Town 21st.

Franchise FC won just their 5th home match of the season with an empahtic 3-0 triumph over Blackpool. McLeod had given the home side the lead in the 25th minute. taylor then extended that lead in the 50th minute before McLeod netted his second in the 86th minute. Franchise FC 24th, Blackpool 19th.

AFC Bournemouth and Oldham Athletic battled out a 0-0 draw at Dean Court. AFC Bournemouth 13th, Oldham Athletic 8th.
