League One Review - Feb 15th

Southend United came unstuck in SW London against Brentford as the home side claimed a vital 2-0 win over the Essex leaders. An own goal from Jupp in the 22nd minute, followed by a Gayle strike 11 minutes later sealed the win. Brentford 3rd, Southend United 1st.

Colchester United failed to take advantage of the slip by Southend United as they were held 0-0 by Walsall at Layer Road. Colchester United 2nd, Walsall 21st.

Swansea City also failed to take advantage of the slippage above them as they were held 1-1 by Bradford City at the Liberty Stadium. Knight had put City ahead on the stroke of half time, but this was cancelled out by Wetherall in the 71st minute. Swansea City 4th, Bradford City 12th.

Huddersfield Town did manage to close the gap on the top-2 with a 1-0 away win against Blackpool at Bloomfield Road. The only goal of the game came on 42 minutes when Brandon converted a penalty. Blackpool 22nd, Huddersfield Town 5th.

The final play-off place is currently taken by Barnsley who have a 4-point cushion over 7th place. This was consolidated with a 1-1 draw with Port Vale at Oakwell. Hayes fired the home side ahead in the 55th minute, but this was cancelled out by Cummins in the 83rd for the visitors. Barnsley 6th, Port Vale 10th.

Chesterfield couldn't make up any of the difference as they slipped ay home against Doncaster Rovers at Saltergate. The only goal of the game came from Price in the 13th minute. Chesterfield 7th, Doncaster Rovers 9th.

Oldham Athletic inflicted Nottingham Forest's 10th away defeat of the campaign with an empahtic 3-0 win at Boundary Park. Wellens put the home side ahead in the 52nd minute, which was followed by a Butcher strike 20 minutes later. The win was secured in the 81st minute by Beckett. Oldham Athletic 8th, Nottingham Forest 13th.

Two quick strikes by Butler and Williamson, for crisis club Rotherham United, in the 58th and 60th minutes respectively sunk AFC Bournemouth at Millmoor. Rotherham United 23rd, AFC Bournemouth 14th.

Swindon Town climbed to the giddy heights of 16th (up 5 places) in League One with a 1-0 win over Gilligham at the Country Ground. The only goal of the game came from Cureton in the 26th minute. Swindon Town 16th, Gillingham 15th.

Bristol City also did their survival chances the power of good with a 2-0 away win over Scunthorpe United. Cotterill put City ahead in the 31st minutem before Murray extended the lead to secure the win in the 78th. Scunthorpe United 20th, Bristol City 18th.

Yeovil Town, along with most of League One, are just holding their heads above the drop zone following a 1-1 draw with Franchise FC at Huish. Gall fired the home side ahead in the 70th minute, only to see Harding level in the 90th! Yeovil Town 19th, Franchise FC 24th.

The only other game to be played in League One resulted in a 0-0 draw between Tranmere Rovers and Hartlepool United at Prenton Park leaving the two clubs in 11th and 17th respectively.
