League One Review - Feb 20

Scunthorpe United consolidated their pole position in League One as they travelled to south Wales to visit the Liberty Stadium and Swansea City. Sharp gave Scunny a great start with a goal in 3 minutes. Beckford put the result beyond doubt with a second goal in the 71st minute. Swansea City 7th, Scunthorpe United 1st.

Oldham Athletic were well and truely turned over 3-0 away to Port Vale at Vale Park. Whitaker put the home side ahead in the 18th minute. Pilkington doubled the advantage just after the break, with Constantine converting a penalty 11 minutes from time. Port Vale 14th, Oldham Athletic 2nd.

Yeovil Town were given an easy ride by AFC Bournemouth at Dean Court as Gray put the Somerset side ahead on the half hour mark, and Best making sure of the points in the 77th minute. AFC Bournemouth 22nd, Yeovil Town 3rd.

Nottingham Forest were denied a win by Blackpool at The City Ground. Forest went ahead in the 16th minute through Agogo in the 16th minute, but were denied 3-points when Hoolahan levelled in injury time! Nottingham Forest 4th, Blackpool 8th.

Tranmere Rovers had to work hard for their point against Cheltenham Town at Prenton Park. The League One strugglers managed to gain a 2-goal lead through Lowe (18 mins) and Odejayi (26 mins). Shuker pulled one back for the home side in the 49th minute and then Greenacre salvaged a point in the final few seconds! Tranmere Rovers 6th, Cheltenham Town 21st.

Crewe Alexandra entertained Doncaster Rovers at Gresty Road. Rix put the home side ahead in the 50th minute. Heffernan levelled 8 minutes later from the penalty spot. But the points went to the home side as Higdon scored in the 90th minute. Crewe Alexandra 13th, Doncaster Rovers 10th.

A few weeks ago, Brighton & Hove Albion were in danger of being dragged in to scrap to avoid the drop. Now, they are comfortable in mid-table, helped further with a 1-0 away win at Gillingham at Priestfield. The only goal of the game came as Savage scored in the 18th minute. Gillingham 16th, Brighton & Hove Albion 11th.

Huddersfield Town compounded the misery being felt by Rotherham United as they travelled to Millmoor and came away with a 3-2 away win. Beckett put the visitors ahead in the 3rd minute, O'Grady levelled from the spot in the 31st minute, but Beckett restored the advantage in the 45th minute. Collins added to the visitors advantage in the 59th minute with Facey pulling one back in the 71st minute, but it was not enough to save a point. Rotherham United 24th, Huddersfield Town 12th.

Millwall were involved with a cracking game at The New Den against London neighbours Leyton Orient, unevenly sharing 7-goals!! Leyton Orient took the lead in the 5th minute through Alexander, which was followed by a brace from Jarvis in the 7th and 12th minutes. Alexander then put past his own keeper in the 66th minute with Hubertz pulling a 2nd back in the 69th minute. The visitors struck back again as Jarvis completed his hat trick in the 76th minute and the icing on the cake applied by Walker in the 90th minute to round off a remarkable 5-2 away win! Millwall 15th, Leyton Orient 19th.

Northampton Town claimed a vital away win against Brentford. The only goal of the game came as Crowe scored in the 31st minute to claim 3 vitial points. Brentford 23rd, Northampton Town 18th.

Carlisle United (9th) and Chesterfield (17th) battled out a 0-0 at Saltergate.

Bristol City (5th) had their match called off against Bradford City (20th) as they were involved with a local matter against city rivals Bristol Rovers in the Johnstone Paints Trophy.
