Despite their 0-0 draw with struggling Walsall, Southend United maintained their lead at the top of League One at 4 points, and helped Walsall climb out of the bottom-4. Southend United 1st, Walsall 20th.

Huddersfield Town took advantage of results elsewhere with a 2-2 draw with Swansea City at the Liberty Stadium on Friday evening. Trundle and Britton had given the home side a first half lead with goals in the 18th and 44th minutes respectively. But McIntosh and Graham had not read the script as they secured a point for the visitors with goals in the 71st and 80th minutes. Swansea City 4th, Huddersfield Town 2nd.

Colchester United slipped up for the first time in ages as they went down to a single Howard goal on 71 minutes at Oakwell. This proved to be the winner for Barnsley. Barnsley 5th, Colchester United 3rd.

Brentford couldn't take advantage of the teams above them slipping up as they too slipped. They went down to a Smith goal on 34 minutes, which gave Port Vale their 6th away win. Brentford 6th, Port Vale 11th.

Oldham Athletic maintained their push for a play-off place with a 1-0 home win over Tranmere Rovers at Boundary Park. Wellens claimed the only goal of the game on 34 minutes. Oldham Athletic 7th, Tranmere Rovers 14th.

After recent good results, Rotherham United came unstuck against Chesterfield at Millmoor ..... going down to a thumping 0-4 defeat. Hurst gave the visitors just before the break, which was closely followed by goals from Niven just after the break (48) and Allott (53). The points were put beyond doubt in the 86th minute by O'Hara. Rotherham United 23rd, Chesterfield 8th.

Where to start for the game between Nottingham Forest and Swindon Town?! It all started to go wrong for the Wiltshire side as early as the 2nd minute when Southall fired the home side head. Morgan made things worse for the visitors in the 16th with Breckin adding a third in the 28th minute. The second half wasn't much better as Southall completed his hat trick with goals in the 50th and 54th minutes. Morgan made it 6-0 in the 56th minute before Benjamin scored a consolation for the visitors in the 75th minute. The 6-goal advantage was restored by Lester in the final few seconds for a 7-1 victory! Nottingahm Forest 9th, Swindon Town 22nd.

Doncaster Rovers were made to battle for their point away to Hartlepool United. Boyd had given the home side the lead in the 19th minute with Rovers claiming their point in the 89th minute through McCormack. Hartlepool United 19th, Doncaster Rovers 10th.

Bradford City gave the Franchise Holders a rare win to boost their survival chances at the bottom of League One! Harding put Franchise FC ahead at the National Hockey Stadium in the 57th minute, with the veteran Claridge levelling in the 63rd. Lewington snatched the winner in the 88th minute. Franchise FC 24th, Bradford City 12th.

A few weeks ago Bristol City were stranded at the foot of the table. Now they are comfortable in mid-table, more so after a 3-1 win over AFC Bournemouth at Ashton Gate. McCammon gave City the lead in the 7th minute. The Cherries levelled through a wonder-strike from Hayter in the 44th minute. A brace from Brooker in the 56th and 63rd minutes were enough to secure the win. Bristol City 13th, AFC Bournemouth 15th.

Scunthorpe United did their chances of survival the power of good as they won 3-1 against Gillingham at Priestfield. Cochrane may have given the hosts the lead in the 38th minute - that was as good as it got for the Gills! Sparrow levelled just before the break (41) with Hinds (58) and keogh (63) making sure of the points for the visitors. Gillingham 18th, Scunthorpe United 16th.

Blackpool also boosted their survival chances against fellow strugglers Yeovil Town at Bloomfield Road. A Lindegaard own goal didn't help the cause of the Somerset side in the 50th minute. Neither did a Murphy strike for the home side just 3 minutes later. Blackpool 17th, Yeovil Town 21st.
