Tranmere Rovers started the year as they left off - on top - thanks to a single Robinson goal in the 56th minute at Gigg Lane to secure victory over Bury. Tranmere Rovers 1st, Bury 22nd.

Doncaster Rovers and Sheffield United cancelled each other out as the Yorkshire rivals saw out a 2-2 draw at the Keepmoat Stadium. Paynter gave Donny the lead in the 18th minute from the penalty spot, with Syers doubling the advantage in the 63rd minute. Blackman responded with a penalty for the Blades in the 80th minute, leaving McDonald to salvage a pint with an equaliser in the 93rd minute. Doncaster Rovers 3rd, Sheffield United 2nd.

The two long unbeaten runs were tested at Griffin Park as Brentford and AFC Bournemouth cancelled each other out with a 0-0 draw in SW London. Brentford 4th, AFC Bournemouth 7th.

Swindon Town emphatically blew Portsmouth away with a stunning 5-0 win over the struggling Hampshire side. Second half substitute, Collins notched four of the goals with strikes in the 61st, 66th, 73rd and 83rd minutes. Hollands scored the other in the 69th minute. Swindon Town 5th, Portsmouth 21st.

Franchise FC got back on track with a 2-1 win over Notts County at Meadow Lane as Potter and Powell gave the visitors a 2-goal cushion with goals in the 6th and 13th minutes. Campbell-Ryce netted what proved to be a consolation from the penalty spot in the 56th minute. Notts County 13th, Franchise FC 6th.

After a mixed Christmas, Crawley Town started the year on a positive note, with a 3-0 win over Colchester United at the Broadfield Stadium. Goals from Connolly (5th min), Clarke (71st min), and Adams (87th min) proved to be too much for poor ColU to deal with. Crawley Town 8th, Colchester United 20th.

Yeovil Town too, after a mixed Christmas, started the new year on a positive footing, also recording a 3-0 win - theirs coming over Leyton Orient. Goals from Madden (41st & 74th mins) and Hayter (59th min) sealed the win for the Glovers at Huish Park. Yeovil Town 9th, Leyton Orient 15th.

A solitary Dalla Valle goal was enough for Crewe Alexandra to record victory over Carlisle United at Gresty Road. Crewe Alexandra 10th, Carlisle United 17th.

The surprise result of the day came at the Ricoh Arena where Coventry City were humbled by struggling Shrewsbury Town. Morgan scored the only goal of the game in the 63rd minute to ease the Shrews away from the drop zone. Coventry City 11th, Shrewsbury Town 18th.

Stevenage Borough seem to be going backwards at the moment, their cause not helped with Walsall easing their own fears of a relegation battle with a single goal win at Bescot. Paterson scored the only goal of the game in the 87th minute. Walsall 16th, Stevenage Borough 12th.

Hartlepool United couldn't quite follow up their surprise win at the weekend with futher points to help their cause, as Preston North End gained a single goal success, thanks to a Mousinho strike on the stroke of half time. Hartlepool United 24th, Preston North End 14th.

Scunthorpe United and Oldham Athletic managed to see out a 2-2 draw at Glanford Park, but Scunny will be kicking themselves as Canavan (16th min) and Duffy (19th min) gave the home side a 2-goal lead. Byrne reduced the arrears in the 35th minute, with Baxter levelling from the penalty spot 30 minutes later to claim a share of the spoils. Scunthorpe United 23rd, Oldham Athletic 19th.
