Blackpool are bidding to do better this time round, and have taken steps to do that with a dual signing. They have signed Michael Jackson from Tranmere Rovers and Adrian Forbes from Swansea City.

Ex-Cherry, Adam Griffoths, has signed a one-year deal with Brentford. Bees boss, Leroy Rosenior is quoted as saying: "Adam's got a lot of potential and gives us a balance in defence".

Brighton & Hove Albion manager Mark McGhee says he is keen to take a further look at Newcastle trialist Martin Brittain. Brittain and French left back Zoumana Bagayoko did enough to merit further investigation after their performance in Saturday's 4-0 friendly win against Worthing.

Having lost the manager that took them to the League Two title, Carlisle United have appointed ex-Newcastle and Everton midfielder Neil McDonald as their new first-team manager.

Cheltenham Town are aiming higher than a quick return to League Two after boss John Ward declared that "We have to be encouraged by clubs like Southend and Colchester, who won promotion (from League One) last season".

Chesterfield have taken French winger Francois Duhamel on trial. The 21-year-old, who was on loan with French side SO Chatallerault, can play on the right and the left wing and will spend this week at Saltergate.

Doncaster Rovers manager, Dave Penny, is expecting big things this season. He was recently quoted as saying: "I have been in charge for over four years which is a long time. This is a big season for us, we have pushed on every year and have been there and thereabouts".

Gillingham have signed keeper Kelvin Jack from Dundee.
