After their surprise defeat last time out, Southend United made no mistake against Hartlepool United at Roots Hall. Gower got the home side of to a flyer with a strike in the very first minute. Eastwood then claimed his 17th and 18th goals of the season with goals in the 50th and 70th minutes. Southend United 1st, Hartlepool United 21st.

Huddersfield Town claimed a vital point away at Port Vale with a 1-1 draw. Cummins had put the home side ahead in the 59th minute, but both sides hato settle for a point as Booth claimed the equaliser in the 80th minute. Port Vale 15th, Huddersfield Town 2nd.

Brentford, uncharacteristically slipped up at home against Doncaster Rovers. The only goal of the game came through a Thornton strike in the 58th minute. Brentford 3rd, Doncaster Rovers 9th.

Colchester United could only claim a 0-0 draw away to Scunthorpe United at Glanfield Park. Scunthorpe United 11th, Colchester United 4th.

Swansea City's manager may be looking for an automatic promotion place for his side ...... but away day defeats at the hands of lowly Gillingham do not help such causes! The only goal of the game at Priestfield came in the 53rd minute courtesy of a Byfield penalty. Swansea City did win the booking count 4-0 though! Gillingham 16th, Swansea City 5th.

Barnsley were thwarted at home by AFC Bournemouth who claimed an unlikely 0-0 at Oakwell. This despite the fact that the ball did end up in the back of the net for a Barnsley foul in the build up play. Barnsley 6th, AFC Bournemouth 17th.

Oldham Athletic are closing in the final play-off spot as they swept Blackpool aside with a 3-1 at Boundary Park. Southern may have put the visitors ahead in the 41st minute, but Beckett levelled in the 44th and then went on to claim his hat trick with further strikes in the 54th and 85th minutes. Normal service was resumed for Franchise FC as they recent good form came to an end at the City Ground where Nottingham Forest sent them home on the end of a 3-0 home win! Nottingham Forest 8th, Franchise FC 24th.

A few weeks ago, Chesterfield did have play-off aspirations. Now they seem destined for another season in League One. Their cause for another season in League One was helped with a 2-0 defeat at struggling Swindon Town. Cureston got both goals to keep Swindon in touch with safety with strikes in the 52nd and 89th minutes. Swindon Town 23rd, Chesterfield 10th.

Walsall will probably look at a 2-2 home draw against Bradford City as 2 points dropped as opposed to one gained. James (16 mins) and Westwood (36 mins) had given the home side a 2-0 lead before Bower pulled one back just before the break. Wetherall levelled imediately after the break to claim what proved to be a share of the points. Walsall 22nd, Bradford City 12th.

Bristol City may have battled their way from the drop zone to a mid-table position, but they slipped up badly against struggling Rotherham United at Millmoor. Forte (26 mins) and Shaw (38 mins) gave the home side a nice 2-0 half time lead. That was extended further immediately after the break when Forte scored his second (46 mins), leaving Skuse to score a consolation in the 79th. Rotherham United 20th, Bristol City 13th.

Yeovil Town completed the week with a 2-2 draw at home against Tranmere Rovers. Harrold gave the home side the lead in the 4th minute, which was cancelled out by Godison in the 38th minute. Harrold, once again, put the home side ahead (68th minute), only to see Greenacre level in the 76th minute. Yeovil Town 18th, Tranmere Rovers 14th.
