League One Review - March 29th

Last updated : 30 March 2013 By Bournemouth Co-Ordinator

They may have had 10-points deducted in during the week, but Coventry City managed to secure 3 of those points back with a decent 1-0 win over table topping Doncaster Rovers at The Ricoh Arena as Christie scored the only goal of the game in the 13th minute. Coventry City 14th, Doncaster Rovers 1st.

Hot on their heals are AFC Bournemouth who secured their 10th away win of the campaign, with a single goal win over Colchester United at their Community Stadium. The only goal came in the 19th minute courtesy of Pitman. Colchester United 19th, AFC Bournemouth 2nd.

Brentford are also right in there following their 2-1 win over Notts County at Griffin Park. Diagourraga gave the Bees the lead with a 21st minute strike, with Wright-Phillips doubling the advantage in the 70th minute. Judge scored the rebound from a 74th minute penalty to set up an interesting final few minutes, but it wasn't to be for County. Brentford 3rd, Notts County 10th.

Swindon Town were pegged back by struggling Oldham Athletic at The County Ground as Barnard gave the Latics the lead in the 68th minute, with Rooney levelling 3 minutes later. Swindon Town 4th, Oldham Athletic 21st.

In the final few weeks there are plenty of top-of-the-table clashes being played out. The latest came at Prenton Park where Sheffield United managed to put one over on Tranmere Rovers with a 1-0 win, even if they needed the help of Rovers' Taylor with a deflection, in the 42nd minute, to guide the ball past his own keeper to seal the win. Tranmere Rovers 6th, Sheffield United 5th.

Just outside the play-off places, Yeovil Town (7th) could only manage a draw with Walsall (8th) at Huish Park.

If Leyton Orient harbour any play-off ambitions, then they need to be beating the likes of Scunthorpe United at Glanford Park. Instead it was the home side who boosted their chances of survival with a slender 2-1 win. Sodje (3rd min) and Canavan (42nd min) gave Scunny the lead, with Lisbie pulling one back deep in to first half stoppage time. Try as they might to get a leveller, the O's were sent packing as Scunny climbed out of the drop-zone. Scunthorpe United 20th, Leyton Orient 9th.

Can Franchise FC still make the play-offs? They'll still think they can after a 2-0 win over lowly Hartlepool United at Victoria Road. Goals from Bamford (7th min) and Bowditch (62nd min) kept the Franchisee's in sight of the top-6, given their games in hand. Hartlepool United 24th, Franchise FC 11th.

Crawley Town and Stevenage Borough cancelled each other out at Broadfield as they played out a 1-1 draw. Roberts gave the visitors the lead in the 40th minute, with Sparrow levelling 10 minutes after the re-start. Crawley Town 12th, Stevenage Borough 15th.

Can Bury avoid the drop ...... 7 points shy of safety with 6 matches left? They managed to gain a point against Crewe Alexandra, but had to come from behind (twice) to do so. Clayton gave the Alex the lead in the 28th minute, with Soares levelling in the 59th minute. Inman restored the visitors advantage only to see Bishop level from the penalty spot in the 94th minute to rescue a point. Bury 23rd, Crewe Alexandra 13th.

In the days late kick off, Preston North End and Portsmouth cancelled each other out with a 1-1 draw at Deepdale. Wallace gave Pompey the lead in the 3rd minute, with Keane levelling in the 77th minute. Preston North End 16th, Portsmouth 22nd.

Carlisle United and Shrewsbury Town still have a bit more work to do following their 2-2 draw at Brunton Park if they are to avoid the drop. Richards gave the Shrews the lead in the 63rd minute, only to see Miller levelling from the penalty 2 minutes later. Mambo restored the visitors advantage once again 11 minute after that, only to see Miller bag his second penalty with 8 minutes remaining. Carlisle United 17th, Shrewsbury Town 18th.
