Even at this early stage of the season, it's looking good for Charlton Athletic, sitting pretty at the top, especially so after a 5-2 win over Preston North End at The Valley. Goals from Jackson (16th and 26th mins - the latter from the penalty spot), Morrison (22nd min), Wright-Phillips (38th min) and Hollands (69th min) only drew a response from Morgan (85th min) and Daley (91st min) as the wretched run for the Lilywhites continues. Charlton Athletic 1st, Preston North End 13th.

Huddersfield Town couldn't keep pace, dropping points at home against Walsall. Novak gave the Terriers the lead in the 67th minute, with Paterson levelling 11 minutes later. Huddersfield Town 2nd, Walsall 20th.

Franchise FC were the only team in the chasing pack to also win, securing a 3-1 win over Rochdale at Stadium:Franchise, even though Barry-Murphy gave Dale the lead in the 8th minute. The hosts hit back through Smith (17th min), MacDonald (22nd min) and Beevers (31st min) to leave Dale in trouble at the wrong end of the table. Franchise FC 4th, Rochdale 21st.

Stevenage Borough managed to close the gap on the play-off places with a 2-1 win over Sheffield United at Broadhall Lane. Roberts have Borough the lead in the 42nd minute with Evans levelling in the 69th. The winner came 8 minutes from time from Laird. Stevenage Borough 7th, Sheffield United 5th.

Notts County and Wycombe Wanderers eventually had to settle for a share of the points at Meadow Lane. Burgess gave the Magpies the lead in the very first minute, with Grant levelling in the very last minute of stoppage time at the end of the second half! Notts County 6th, Wycombe Wanderers 23rd.

Hartlepool United had to come from behind against Leyton Orient at Brisbane Road for a share of the points. Cox gave the O's the lead in the 23rd minute, with Austin levelling from the penalty spot in the 54th minute. Leyton Orient 18th, Hartlepool United 12th.

Lancashire neighbours Oldham Athletic and Bury went head to head at Boundary Park, with the visitors coming away with local bragging rights. A Bishop brace in the 22nd and 30th minutes sealed the win. Oldham Athletic 14th, Bury 15th.

AFC Bournemouth managed to claim just their 2nd home win of the campaign with a 2-0 win over Scunthorpe United at Dean Court. Goals from Malone (20th min) and Thomas (73rd min) sealed the win and to ease nerves on the south coast. AFC Bournemouth 16th, Scunthorpe United 17th.

Strugglers Chesterfield and Yeovil Town had to settle for a point at the b2Net Stadium. Bowery gave the Spirites the lead in the 4th minute, which was cancelled out by Massey in the 29th minute. Bowery restored the advanatage in the 55th minute, with Allott putting past his own keeper to level scores in the 76th minute - a result which doesn't help either in their plight. Chesterfield 22nd, Yeovil Town 24th.

The games imvolving Sheffield Wednesday (3rd)/Brentford (9th); Tranmere Rovers (8th)/Colchester United (11th); Exeter City (19th)/Carlisle United (10th) all finished 0-0.
