League One Review - Sept 28th

Swansea City remain top of League One following a 1-0 away win at Dean Court against AFC Bournemouth. Trundle scored the only goal of the game from close range after Gareth Stewart spilled a save leaving an easy tap in. AFC Bournemouth 18th, Swansea City 1st.

Southend United smashed their fellow League Two side from last season, Yeovil Town, as they walked away from Roots Hall with an emphatic 4-1 victory. Jevons put the visitors ahead in the 44th minute, leaving Guttridge to level after 59, Gray to put the home side ahead in the 68th minute. Finally a brace from Eastwood in the 89th and 90th minutes complete the rout. Sothend United 2nd, Yeovil Town 21st.

Huddersfield Town make up the leading trio, who now lead the rest of the pack by 5 points, as they beat Tranmere Rovers by a single goal, scored by Schofield in the 86th minute, at the Galpharm Stadium. Huddersfield Town 3rd, Tranmere Rovers 17th.

Brentford were held in a 0-0 draw at Bescot by Walsall. The Londoners did win the yellow card count 3-2! Walsall 8th, Brentford 4th.

Scunthorpe United, who started life so well at the higher level became the first side to loose a League match to Franchise FC. The Franchise holders won by a single Platt goal in the 42nd minute. Franchise FC 23rd, Scunthorpe United 5th.

Oldham Athletic travelled to Port Vale on Wednesday evening, and came away with a 2-2, having seen a victory snatched away at the last! Beckett gave the visitors a good start with a goal in the 14th minute. The game then livened up in the final 20 minutes as Cornes got his first in the 70th minute for the home side. Killen then though that he had secured a win for the visitors when he netted in the 80th minute. But it was not to be as Cornes levelled for the second time in the 90th minute. Port Vale 10th, Oldham Athletic 6th.

Bradford City were held at home against Colchester United in a 1-1 draw at Valley Parade. Halford put the home side ahead in the 61st minute, before Petta levelled in the 83rd minute. Bradford City 7th, Colchester United 15th.

Rotherham United and Hartlepool United couldn't manage a goal between them in a 0-0 draw at Victoria Park. Hartlepool United 22nd, Rotherham United 9th.

Gillingham arrested their recent slump in League One with a 1-0 win over Chesterfield at Priestfield. The only goal of the game courtesy of a Sancho strike 5 minutes from time. Gillingham 20th, Chesterfield 11th.

Nottingham Forest left it until 12 minutes from time to rescue a point against Blackpool at the City Ground as Breckin levelled a 23rd minute from Parker for Blackpool. Nottingham Forest 12th, Blackpool 16th.

Doncaster Rovers compounded the misery facing managerless Swindon Town as Forte scored the only goal of the game in the 35th minute. Doncaster Rovers 13th, Swindon Town 24th.

Bristol City have finally come to live following a 3-0 win over Barnsley at Ashton Gate. Brooker got the scoring under way in the 23rd minute before Stewart started to justify his transfer fee with goals in the 38th and 44th minutes. Bristol City 19th, Barnsley 14th.
