Tranmere Rovers move to top of the pile after they blew Colchester United away, 4-0, at Prenton Park. A hat-trick for Cassidy (40th, 49th and 77th minutes) plus a goal from Bakayogo (58th min) was more than enough to send the Wirral side to the top on goal difference. Tranmere Rovers 1st, Colchester United 20th.

Yeovil Town continued their impressive start to the new season with a 2-1 win over fancied Doncaster Rovers at Huish Park. Goals from Hayter (56th min) and Ugwu (84th min) only drew a consolation response from Paynter in the 94th minute. Yeovil Town 2nd, Doncaster Rovers 9th.

Notts County edged up to 3rd with a decent 2-0 win over Bury at Gigg Lane. Goals from Lee Hughes (2nd min) and Judge (91st min) sealed the points for the side from the East Midlands. Bury 22nd, Notts County 3rd.

Crawley Town also maintained their decent start to life in the third tier with a single goal victory over Leyton Orient at the Broadfield Stadium. Ajose scored the only goal of the game in the 72nd minute. Crawley Town 4th, Leyton Orient 23rd.

Sheffield United made heavy work of AFC Bournemouth in an 8-goal thriller at Bramhall Lane. Despite the Cherries taking the lead in the 20th minute through Elphick, the Yorkshire side hit back by half time with goals from Flynn (24th and 31st mins) and Cofie (43rd min). Barnard pulled reduced the arrears for the south coast side 4 minutes after the restart, only to see Cresswell restore the 2-goal advantage on the hour mark. Pugh gave Cherries hope of a come back in the 87th minute, but that was snuffed out when Blackman sealed the 5-3 win with a 93rd minute penalty. Sheffield United 5th, AFC Bournemouth 19th.

Stevenage Borough had to be content with a point against newly promoted Shrewsbury Town at Broadhall Way, but had to come from behind to do so. Parry have the Shrews a 5th minute lead, only for Charles to level in the 24th minute. Stevenage Borough 6th, Shrewsbury Town 13th.

Franchise FC managed to claim all 3-points, and kept all their players on the pitch. The win over Carlisle United at Stadium:Franchise came as Chadwick (12th min) and Lowe (65th min) scored the goals to claim the points. Franchise FC 7th, Carlisle United 17th.

Swindon Town were soundly beaten by Preston North End, at Deepdale, as PNE claimed their first win of the new season with a 4-1 win. Sodje (5th min), Wroe (10th min), and Beavon (43rd min) put the game beyond reach by half time. De Vita scored a consolation in the 58th minute, with Welsh restoring the 3-goal advantage 10 minutes later. Preston North End 12th, Swindon Town 8th.

Last season, Crewe Alexandra and Coventry City were miles apart in League status, but this year they face each other in the League. The game at Gresty Road saw the Railwaymen win by a single Clayton (24th min) goal to seal the win. Crewe Alexandra 10th, Coventry City 18th.

Brentford had to come from behind with a late show at Walsall to claim a point against the Saddlers at Bescot. Paterson (28th min) and Bowerman (29th min) gave the home side a half time lead before Douglas (86th min) and Donaldson (90th min) salvaged a point. Walsall 14th, Brentford 11th.

Hartlepool United claimed their first win of the new season with a 2-0 win over hapless Scunthorpe United at Victoria Road. Franks (23rd min) and James (86th min) scored the goals to seal the win. Scunny's cause wasn't helped when Walker was sent off in the 79th minute. Hartlepool United 14th, Scunthorpe United 24th.

The other game to be played came at Fratton Park as Portsmouth lost to Oldham Athletic. The only goal of the game came in the 59th minute from Grounds. Both sides finished with 10-men as Obita (for Portsmouth) and Byrne (for Oldham) saw red. Portsmouth 21st, Oldham Athletic 15th.
