League One Round Up

Fans at troubled Franchise FC (aka Milton Keynes Dons) have been advised that they will not be receiving their season tickets in time for the new season. This being brought about due to high demand (!) and a short time frame to process season tickets having come out of administration.

It isn’t just AFC Bournemouth who are looking at Portuguese players this season. Torquay United are also in on the act having signed Bruno Meirelles from Amora FC on a short term deal. Torquay are also hoping to sign Gillingham keeper Bertrand Bossu.

Supporters at Wrexham have launched a £12 million bid to buy the club and prevent a move to a new stadium. This follows a meeting of the local council, who opposed the move. Their Chairman (who apparently has no interest in football) has promised to relook at the possibility of staying at their traditional Racecourse ground home.

West Midland side Walsall have signed Mark Kinsella on a 2-year deal. Merson is quoted as saying: He is going to be one of the best players at this level. He had offers to go to other clubs higher up the League, but he wanted to come here and we moved quickly to secure his signature because you can't let opportunities like this pass". Kinsella’s former clubs include Charlton Athletic and Aston Villa.

Bristol City have signed Jamie Smith for a trial period. They are hoping he can fill the boots of Louis Carey who departed for Coventry City.

Peterborough United have invited 6ft 3 defender Elliott Ward for a trial from West Ham United.

Oldham Athletic are struggling for a goal keeper ahead of the new season. They have recently failed to agree terms with Kelvin Jack and are not going to look at David Forde from West Ham.

Stockport County have signed their 5th player ahead of the new season. This time they have signed Derek Geary from Sheffield Wednesday.

Blackpool have signed defender Mark McGregor from Burnley.
