After the disappointment and the collective off day at Christie Park, manager Eddie Howe was quoted in the Bournemouth Evening Echo as saying on the 5-0 drubbing: "We just never performed from, really, the first whistle. I don’t know the reason behind it – it’s a difficult one. To get beaten is bad enough, but to get beaten in the manner we did was really disappointing and it’s very unusual because we’ve been excellent. To suddenly end up getting beaten by five – and probably deservedly so – is a hard one to work out. I thought Morecambe were very good and they deserve a lot of credit for how they played, but we’ve got to look at ourselves – everybody to a man – try to analyse it and move on. We’ve still got to look at the bigger picture and where we are – that’s not been a fluke. We’ve still got a very small squad and we need to respond together".
