Now that AFC Bournemouth have signed another striker, attention turns to boost the defensive capabilites, left back in particular, as Paul Groves looks to strengthen ahead of the pre-season.
Groves is quoted in the Bournemouth Evening Echo as saying: "We are still looking to address the centre-half and left-back position with regard to putting together a balanced squad. We have got a number of players who can play different positions but, if you are looking at natural left-backs, it is an area we will be looking to strengthen to add competition. We would like two players for every position. In one or two areas, we might end up with one extra. We might have four or five wide players, five central midfielders and five strikers. We will be looking for the team to develop over the course of the season and to play attractive and attacking football with energy. The work and preparation will be done in pre-season but it takes time to build and cement partnerships and an understanding of each other’s strengths and weaknesses. We had a taste of the division at the end of the season and didn’t think there were too many teams that gave us lots of problems. I know there are arguments for and against that but we will be looking to be progressive in what we do".
