It's a bit superficial to be talking league tables at this stage, but it's Huddersfield Town to lead the pack after a thumping 3-0 away win over newly promotion Notts County at Meadow Lane. Pilkington and Rhodes gave the visitors a 2-goal lead by half time with strikes in the 32nd and 35th minutes, which was followed in the second period with Pilkington completing a brace in the 72nd minute. Notts County 24th, Huddersfield Town 1st.

Bristol Rovers may have fancied their chances pre-season, but might have to reassess their ambitions after they were thumped 3-0 by Peterborough United at London Road as Boyd (57th min), Mclean (73rd min) and McCann (88th min) got the Posh off to a great start following relegation last season. Peterborough United 2nd, Bristol Rovers 23rd.

Brentford will be pleased to have the long trip to Carlisle United out of the way, especially as they went down 2-0 at Brunton Park. Madaine (22nd min) and Harte on the stroke of half time ensured that the home side got off to a winning start. Carlisle United 3rd, Brentford 21st.

A first came at Hillsborough as Sheffield Wednesday met Dagenham & Redbridge, clubs of very different natures, but the relegated side ran out 2-0 winners with 2 quick goals with Doe putting past his own keeper in the 13th minute and Morrison netting 2 minutes later. Sheffield Wednesday 4th, Dagenham & Redbridge 22nd.

Swindon Town appear to be suffering from a play-off hangover following their 2-1 defeat against Brighton & Hove Albion at The County Ground. A Sparrow brace in the 19th and 75th minutes only drew a response from Austin the 80th minute, with the points heading back to Sussex. Swindon Town 16th, Brighton & Hove Albion 5th.

Franchise FC also got off to a winning start, theirs coming at Bescot against Walsall. Baldock gave Franchise the lead in the 42nd minute, with Smith levelling 3 minutes after the restart, only to see Woodards scoring the winner on the hour mark. Walsall 18th, Franchise FC 6th.

Oldham Athletic have made a confident start to the mew season with a 2-1 win over Tranmere Rovers at Prenton Park. A Stevens brace in the 27th and 81st minutes all but sealed the win, but had to sit out a nervy few moments when Moore pulled one back in the 89th minute. Tranmere Rovers 17th, Oldham Athletic 7th.

Yeovil Town got off to a winning start with a 2-1 win over Leyton Orient at Huish Park. Bowditch gave the home side the lead in the 12th minute, with Revell levelling in the 41st minute with Freeman scoring what proved to be the winner on the stroke of half time. Yeovil Town 8th, Leyton Orient 15th.

Charlton Atheltic overcame any play-off disappointment with an opening day win over AFC Bournemouth at The valley Sodje scored the only goal of the game in the 22nd minute. Charlton Athletic 9th, AFC Bournemouth 19th.

Regelated Plymouth Argyle managed to hold on to a 1-0 win over hot promotion favourites Southampton at St Mary's as Summerfield scored the only goal of the game in the 47th minute. Southampton 20th, Plymouth Argyle 10th.

Exeter City had to come from behind to claim a point against Colchester United having initially at St James's Park. Harley have the Grecians the lead in the 7th minute from the penalty spot, only to see Wordsworth net a brace for the Essex side in the 10th and 11th minute. City had to be patient until the 87th minute when Logan salvaged a point. Exeter City 12th, Colchester United 11th.

The only other game played resulted in a 0-0 draw between Rochdale (12th) and Hartlepool United (13th) at Spotland.
