Pick Of The Cherries - Ground To Be Sold?

Last updated : 31 May 2002 By Andy Burton
In the last 24 hours AFC Bournemouth have annouced that they are considering the sale of Dean Court to a property developer.

The idea would follow a similar move to Walsall who sold their Bescot Stadium to a Pension Firm and leased back the ground in a 25 year deal. Is the same about to happen at Dean Court.

Any change in ownership would not take place before the fans had been consulted. But any change has its pro's and con's.

Selling the ground would release a significant amount of money to complete the fitting out of the Stadium, whether it be the conference and banqueting facilities, which in turn would help make the business profitable and make the financial future of AFC Bournemouth more secure than its' ever been.

On the other hand, selling our prized asset could mean that we might be at the mercy of the developer who may view the land as an opportunity to knock everything down to build houses, which would be far more lucrative to them.
